Faneromeni Monastery, Sitia The monastery is located northwest of Sitia, Cape Trachilas, built in the canyon of All Saints and offers great views to the sea. The name of the monastery comes from the image of the Virgin which, according to tradition, a shepherd found the cave next to the temple. The shepherd took with him but when he arrived home he realized that the picture was "back" to where you found it. After this was repeated for two more days and the icon continued to "manifest" in the cave, the image remained on the spot where it was built the monastery was named Faneromeni. Today, several buildings have been reconstructed. They kept six of the medieval type cells, the oven of the monastery and an old mill.
Panagia Exakousti
The Monastery of Panagia Exakousti situated in a beautiful green location near Malles Ierapetra. Today it operates as a convent, while formerly male. Here operates textile workshop, tailor and needlework showroom and other souvenirs.The church of the monastery is single-aisled Kamaroskepasti Vasiliki dedicated to the Virgin Mary's Birthday (celebrated on September 8). The images of the iconostasis are younger, but there are two old images of the Virgin and Child and St. John the Baptist. In the monastery there is a small cave that has been adapted into a chapel dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ, in which Ananias found the icon of Our Lady.
